JIRAYR BEUGEKIAN APPOINTED ARS, INC. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Armenian Relief Society, Inc. Central Executive Board has appointed Mr. Jirayr Beugekian as its executive director. The full-time appointment began on November 1.

The appointment ends the ARS Central Executive Board's recent search for an executive director to oversee the work of the Society's Watertown, MA headquarters and Yerevan, Armenia office.

“We are happy to strengthen our operations with a person who can provide administrative leadership and help our Society achieve its goals on the eve of our 100th anniversary," said ARS Central Executive Board Chairwoman Hasmig Derderian. "This appointment will also allow our former executive director, Mr. Tatul Sonents-Papazian, to concentrate on the most important task of writing the history of our nearly 100-year-old organization and cataloging our rich archives.”

Mr. Beugekian was born in Beirut, Lebanon. He studied at the Armenian Catholic Zmmarian, then Mesrobian, colleges and at the Hamazkayin Nishan Palandjian College. He graduated from Haigazian University College, majoring in Computer Sciences. Beginning in 1983, Beugekian was a staff member at the §Aztag¦ Daily newspaper, the ARF Press and Information Bureau, and the §Droshak¦ bi-weekly, Athens, Greece. Beugekian worked in Armenia beginning in 1989 and returned to Lebanon in 1993. Mr. Beugekian worked for the Hairenik Association, Inc., from 2001 until his ARS appointment. He is fluent in several languages.

"This is an exciting and important time in the life of the ARS and I look forward to help the Society move forward with its increasing important international work," said Beugekian.
