For only $150 per child, individuals can help sponsor a healthy birth at the ARS Mother and Child Health Clinic and Birthing Center, located in Akhourian, Armenia. The ARS opened the clinic's much-needed birthing center in April 2005. Since that opening, nearly 2,000 infants have been born at the ARS birthing center to healthy mothers who receive their pre-natal care at the clinic.
Equipped with technology and medical instruments otherwise available only in Yerevan or outside of Armenia, the ARS Mother and Child Health Clinic and Birthing Center provides nearly 50,000 residents of the Akhourian region with top-notch medical services and access to critical technology so essential in high-risk birth situations.
The ARS, Inc. established the healthy birth sponsorship program at its 2005 International Triennial Convention. The first child born at the birthing center when it opened in April 2005 was a boy, who was named Vrej.
"This is a very important new program for the ARS," said ARS, Inc. Central Executive Board Chairwoman Hasmig Derderian.
"With just a $150 donation, individuals can give a healthy first start in life to the babies born at our Center.
"Our doctors at the Center have already seen the difference in the number of healthy births at the Center," Derderian added,
"and the survival rate of the babies born at our Center in Gyumri has increased."
The ARS was established in 1910 and is the oldest Armenian women's organization with entities in 24 countries. To sponsor a healthy birth at the ARS Mother and Child Health Clinic and Birthing Center, send your tax-deductible donation payable to ARS, Inc., 80 Bigelow Ave., Watertown, MA 02472, with "Sponsor a Healthy Birth" on the memo line.
